  • Perform pre–trip and post trip inspection of the vehicle and attend to any noted faults and defects.

  • Maintain accurate daily vehicle usage logbook/trip sheets, incident and accident reports, vehicle condition reports, fuel consumption reports, and any other
    reports that are requested from the management.
  • Maintain proper work ticket for vehicle usage and log all the trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Maintain and submit on a monthly basis accurate, up to date records on trip sheets, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and any other reports that are requested from the management.
  • Ensure that the vehicle insurance policy is always valid and organize with the supervisor for its renewal at least one month in advance of expiry date.
  • Facilitate any inspections of the vehicle if required.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the management from time to time.

  • Must be a holder of a clean and valid driving license Class ‘ABCE’.
  • AA Certificate of competency.
  • Certificate of good conduct.
  • Must have experience in driving a bus.

A vacancy has arisen at the British High Commission for a Driver. The position is graded at S1 (L) for which the current salary starts at Ksh. 80,485.00 per month before deduction of tax. Where the successful candidate is not liable to Kenyan tax, the salary will be abated under HM Treasury regulations to Ksh. 62,732 per month to take account of the tax they would have paid.

Driver Job Main Purpose in Kenya

  • This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of Nairobi’s biggest missions, providing an all round logistics support to a growing mission. The successful applicants must have a BCE, clean driving Licence. The applicants also require good working knowledge of the city, its environs and other areas of the country.
  • The individual will need to be extremely efficient in managing their time in an environment which is dynamic and liable to be change at very short notice. The individual should be able to think ahead and choose the best route for the journey, demonstrate initiative, be extremely discreet and polite in all dealings with both internal and external contacts as a representative of the Mission.
  • S/he should also demonstrate skills in working well with others.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Daily maintenance checks on BHC vehicles. Ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy before starting on their journey.
  • Driving BHC staff to meetings and functions in and around Nairobi.
  • Chauffeuring Officers / Visitors to various ministerial and other organisations within Nairobi and upcountry.
  • Driving the BHC’s Armoured Vehicles.
  • Meet and escort BHC officials to and from the airports Domestic and International terminals respectively.
  • Completing accurate journey record sheets for all journeys in official vehicles.
  • Ensure vehicle is serviced at the stated mileage and all details documented in the Logbook.
  • Making pickups and deliveries and will be required to work on a on a shift system.
  • Delivering water to properties
  • Ensuring that any vehicle driven is clean and has adequate fuel and oil to carry out any driving duties assigned by doing a daily inspection and submitting all purchase receipts and any mechanical problems to the Transport Manager.
  • Ensuring passengers’ safety by requesting them to belt-up before proceeding for a Journey. Have a well documented journey plan when proceeding on long safaris.
  • Rotate as per duty rota, as an overnight, weekend duty and water bowser driver at the High Commission as required.
  • Driving the truck as required to deliver supplies / furniture to properties or the airport.
  • Keeping in touch with the office by using the existing radio / communication system.
  • Providing cover for colleagues on leave and working at the reception switchboard when called upon to assist.
  • Keep a high degree of confidentially and discreteness in discussions and travels, which involves BHC officials.
  • Drive authorized personnel as directed, ensuring strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations including speed limits.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Transport Planner or Transport Manager.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the vehicle and passengers in your care

Major Activities/Expected Results

  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle, accurate maintenance of daily, Vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, Car washing, etc so that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times.
  • Ensures proper use of vehicle maintenance plans and assistance in preparing vehicle history report.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Keeps track of insurance and other formalities
  • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident
  • Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining when required. Assists in the mailing and distribution of telephone and other bills, as required
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
